What academic support will I receive?
Our aim is to help all students achieve their full potential.
Learning support is offered to every student who needs it and is tailored to their individual needs.
The level of support needed by students is assessed at the application, interview and initial guidance stage. Here, students are asked to discuss their individual needs and bring along any supporting documents that will help us understand the level of support that is required.
We aim to provide a supportive and inclusive learning environment. However, we are not a specialist special education needs and/or disabilities (SEND) provider. If you have a EHCP we must be consulted by the local authority on whether we have the right curriculum and environment for the student and if we can meet the support needs. This must happen before we can offer a place at the Fowler Academy.
If a student needs help in exams, we will need to gather various forms of evidence and send these to the exam board. It might be necessary for us to carry out an exam access arrangement assessment for those with specific learning difficulties or we may request students to provide medical evidence if they have a specific medical need. If a student has had exam access arrangements in their previous education setting, they should provide us with evidence of this.
Parents/carers provide a crucial role in supporting their child’s learning and development. We keep parents/carers informed about their child’s progress by inviting them to attend information evenings with tutors, sending progress reports home, and messages home to parents/carers via our internal communication system. If there are issues with attendance, punctuality, behaviour or progress, parents/carers will be notified and meetings arranged to help work out a plan to overcome these problems.
If you would like to discuss our learning support provision further, please use the enquiry form on the contact us page.
